  • Marmore Falls: created in the third century BC when Manius Curius Dentatus began draining the Lacus Velinus and diverted its waters towards the Nera; at 165 metres the Region presents it as the tallest waterfall in Europe. Panoramic trails and rafting on the Nera.
  • Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, of twelfth-century origin, with statues of Terni bishops on the façade and the tomb of Saint Anastasius in the crypt.
  • First-century AD Roman amphitheatre in the city centre; church of San Salvatore, built over a Roman domus.
  • Palazzo Spada, sixteenth century, designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, now the town hall.
  • CAOS: an arts centre in the former SIRI chemical plant, with the Aurelio De Felice museum of modern and contemporary art (works by Chagall, Kandinsky, Miró, Picasso) and the archaeological museum.
  • Carsulae: a Roman municipium on the Via Flaminia, with forum, theatre, amphitheatre and the church of San Damiano.
  • Lake Piediluco: Umbria's second lake, with its village, the church of San Francesco and Monte Eco on the opposite shore, known for its echo.

When to see the Falls

Full flow can only be seen during release windows, announced by an acoustic signal: in winter there are often no releases on weekdays and weekend ones are short, in spring and autumn there are midday and afternoon windows, and in July and August they are most frequent and include evening openings. Times change for holidays and events and should be checked on the official website before setting off.
