Climate and environment: particulates in the basin, regulated water
In 2024 Terni was among the few areas outside the Po Valley cited by the national environmental protection system for violations of the daily PM10 limit. The waters of the Marmore Falls are largely diverted for hydroelectric power.

Air
In its national PM10 overview for 2024, the national environmental protection system (SNPA) reports that the great majority of stations above the daily limit are in the Po Valley and that "isolated cases of violation" were also recorded elsewhere, including Terni. The same report notes that days caused by Saharan dust can be deducted.
Water and energy
The Marmore Falls are a "controlled-flow waterfall": when they are not fully open, the water is diverted into penstocks to generate hydroelectric power, and the full drop can only be seen during the release times published by the municipality.
