Cost of living: income-tax surcharge, ISEE-based waste-tax cut, rent support

Municipal income-tax surcharge
According to the rates published by the Department of Finance for 2025, Prato's municipal IRPEF surcharge is a single flat rate of 0.5% (resolution no. 86 of 23 December 2024, confirming the rate). It is withheld by the employer or pension provider, or paid with the tax return.
Waste-tax reduction
The Comune di Prato offers a social reduction of the Tari for households: it comes on top of the national "social bonus for waste" and is a percentage that varies with the ISEE band and the number of dependent children. Households with a valid ISEE up to 20,000 euros can apply online with SPID, CIE or CNS, quoting the user code on the Tari bill. Elderly or vulnerable people with no family support can get help filling in the form by appointment.
Rent support
Every year the Comune publishes a call for grants towards rent, funded by the national fund created by Law 431 of 1998, for Prato residents with a regular lease who meet ISE and ISEE requirements. The leaseholder applies online; applicants admitted to the 2026 call must then send proof of rent paid between 2 January and 1 February 2027, or they are excluded.
