Overview
A young city
Pescara has been a single city since 1927, when the two banks of the river were united: on 2 January 2027 it celebrates its centenary. A 2023 regional law established, from 1 January 2027, the new Comune di Pescara through a merger with Montesilvano and Spoltore; progress should be checked on the municipality's website.
The city stretches along the seafront, linked north to south by the Ponte del Mare cycle and pedestrian bridge, and includes the Pineta dannunziana nature reserve.
Who lives here
The viale Pindaro campus of the "G. d'Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara brings students and staff to the city; the central station has direct trains to Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples and Bari, and Abruzzo airport is linked to the centre by a dedicated bus. Air quality is broadly within legal limits, but Pescara's stations record the highest particulate values in the region.
