Food institutions and companies
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), an EU agency set up in 2002, is based in Parma. Food companies work alongside it: the Barilla group, whose history begins in Parma in 1877 with a bread and pasta shop, describes itself as a leader in pasta, sauces and bakery products, sold in over 100 countries (company source).
Trade fairs
Fiere di Parma organises Cibus, the reference event for the Italian agri-food sector, and Cibus TEC on food technology (with Koelnmesse), as well as SPS Italia on industrial automation, Labotec on laboratory technology, Greenitaly for nursery and landscaping and the Colloquium Dental Show (source: the fair organiser). The fairs are opportunities for people looking for jobs or clients in those sectors.
Training
The University of Parma offers English-taught master's degrees linked to the food chain, such as Food Safety and Food Risk Management, Global Food Law and Economics and Management of Sustainable Food Systems, as well as vehicle engineering courses shared with other universities in the region.
