Who covers the city
La Spezia is in the territory of ASL 5, headquartered at via Fazio 30; since 1 January 2026 the authority is part of the regional body ATS Liguria. The municipality falls within socio-health district 18 "Del Golfo", together with Lerici and Portovenere; the other two districts are 17 "Riviera e Val di Vara" and 19 "Val di Magra".
Hospitals and emergency room
The city hospital is the Sant'Andrea, at via Vittorio Veneto 197 (switchboard 0187 5331), one of the two acute-care hospitals of the presidio together with the San Bartolomeo in Sarzana; the specialties listed by the ASL include the emergency room and emergency medicine, and ER waiting times can be checked in real time on the authority's website. The new Felettino hospital, in La Spezia, is listed as under construction; in Levanto the San Nicolò is a low-intensity care site.
Out-of-hours doctor
The out-of-hours service (continuità assistenziale) is activated by calling the operations centre on 0187 026198: home visits from 20:00 to 8:00 on weekdays and, from Saturdays and on pre-holidays and holidays, until 8:00 of the first working day. The city clinic is at the Casa di Comunità at via XXIV Maggio 139, ground floor, entrance from via Francesco Cacace: walk-in access on pre-holidays and holidays from 9:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 18:00 and, in the evening, from 20:30 to 23:00. For people not resident in Liguria the clinic visit costs 20 euros and the home visit 35.
