Organisation
The Ligurian health service is organised in five Local Health Authorities numbered along the coast: ASL 1 Imperiese, ASL 2 Savonese, ASL 3 Genovese, ASL 4 Chiavarese (Tigullio), ASL 5 Spezzino. Genoa hosts the IRCCS San Martino Polyclinic, the IRCCS Giannina Gaslini children's hospital (a national reference) and the Galliera hospital. The regional governing body, A.Li.Sa., was renamed Liguria Salute on 1 September 2025 and under regional law 18/2025 is merged into the Azienda Tutela della Salute (ATS) Liguria: names on documents may still vary.
Booking, health record, co-payments
Bookings go through CUP Liguria (regional number, desks, pharmacies and online) and the Electronic Health Record is accessed from the regional portal with SPID/CIE, with reports, prescriptions, GP change and co-payment. GP choice is made at the ASL of residence or online. Co-payment exemptions follow national rules, with regional additions to be checked each year.
Mountains and coast
In the Ligurian Alps, the Apennines and on the coastal paths (Cinque Terre, Portofino) rescue is provided by the Ligurian Alpine and Cave Rescue with the regional helicopter: call 112. In summer the 118 service opens seasonal posts in the beach resorts.
