Overview

What kind of city

Brescia is one of the seven components of the UNESCO site "Longobards in Italy. Places of the Power (568–774 A.D.)", inscribed in 2011: according to Fondazione Brescia Musei, Santa Giulia and Brixia, the archaeological park of Roman Brescia, have been recognised as a UNESCO site since 2011. The Foundation runs a museum system that also includes the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo and the Castle, with the "Luigi Marzoli" Arms Museum and the "Leonessa d'Italia" Risorgimento Museum. The municipality is seated in Piazza della Loggia.

The Università degli Studi di Brescia was officially founded in 1982, with the faculties of Medicine and Surgery, Engineering and Economics and Commerce, after twenty years of local initiatives; the university describes itself as born "to enhance Brescia's business and healthcare excellence".

Getting around

The automatic, driverless light metro has crossed the city from north to south-east since 2013. The next step is the tram: line T2 Fiera–Pendolina, with the contract signed in June 2025 and opening planned for 2030, and a line T3 between Badia/Violino and Sant'Eufemia/Mille Miglia, whose funding application to the Ministry has been approved.
