The Italian region with the most overnight stays: Venice and its lagoon, Verona, Padua (botanical garden and fresco cycles), Vicenza and the Palladian villas, the Prosecco hills, the Dolomites, Garda and the Adriatic beaches. Venice trialled an access fee in 2024–2026. Municipal tourist tax.

UNESCO sites and parks
UNESCO sites: Venice and its Lagoon (1987), Vicenza and the Palladian villas (1994–1996), Padua's Botanical Garden (1997), Verona (2000), the Dolomites (2009, with Trentino-South Tyrol and Friuli), the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene (2019), Padua's fourteenth-century fresco cycles (2021), the Venetian works of defence at Peschiera del Garda (2017) and the pile-dwelling sites (2011). Parks: Dolomiti Bellunesi (national), Po Delta (regional, biosphere reserve), Colli Euganei, Lessinia, Sile.
Seasons
Venice is crowded all year with peaks at Carnival, Easter, summer and the Biennale; Garda and the beaches (Jesolo, Bibione, Caorle, Sottomarina) work from Easter to September; the Belluno Dolomites (Cortina, Arabba, Civetta) have two seasons. Verona hosts the opera season at the Arena from June to September. Spring and autumn are the best periods for the art cities and the Prosecco hills.
Access rules
From 2024 to 2026 the Comune di Venezia trialled an access fee to the historic city for day visitors on selected days, with online booking and a QR code; the 2026 trial ended on 27 July and the Comune will decide on any measures for later years: check cda.ve.it. Municipal rules on groups (maximum 25 people) and loudspeakers in the historic centre remain in force. The tourist tax is municipal and Venice applies some of the highest rates in Italy; many coastal and Garda municipalities apply it in season.
