Rail
Termoli is Molise's only station on the Adriatic line, with Frecciarossa and Intercity stops towards Bologna, Milan and Bari. Campobasso and Isernia are linked to Rome Termini by Trenitalia regional trains (about three and a half hours via Isernia and Vairano) and to Naples via Benevento or Caserta, taking over two hours with few daily runs; the Campobasso–Termoli line via Larino has a reduced service. The Sulmona–Carpinone line towards Abruzzo is used only by tourist trains. In practice the train is for trips to Rome and for Termoli commuters, not for moving around the region.
Airports, port, buses
Molise has no commercial airport: from Termoli, Pescara is about an hour away; from Isernia and Venafro, Naples Capodichino about an hour and a half; from Campobasso, Rome Fiumicino over three hours. From the port of Termoli ferries and hydrofoils run to the Tremiti islands (Puglia), all year with reduced winter frequencies. Intercity buses are run by several private companies under regional concession and link villages to the provincial capitals; many daily coach lines connect Campobasso and Isernia with Rome Tiburtina, Naples and Pescara, often faster than the train.
Roads
The road network relies on the A14 (Termoli and Vasto Sud exits), the A1 (Caianello exit for Isernia and Venafro, San Vittore for Cassino) and state roads: the SS647 Bifernina Campobasso–Termoli, the SS17 and SS85 Isernia–Venafro, the SS87 Campobasso–Benevento and Campobasso–Larino. Many provincial roads are closed or reduced to one lane because of landslides. In inland municipalities public transport is limited to school runs: without a car you cannot live there.
