Sectors

The Marche have one of the highest shares of industrial employment among Italian regions. The districts absorb most of the work: footwear and leather goods between Fermo, Montegranaro, Civitanova and Porto Sant'Elpidio; furniture and kitchens around Pesaro (Pesaro, Fossombrone); household appliances and cooker hoods in the Fabriano and Jesi area; paper mills in Fabriano; accordions and instruments in Castelfidardo; boatbuilding in Ancona and Fano. The footwear crisis and the restructuring of appliance plants around Fabriano have reduced industrial employment over the last fifteen years, partly offset by services, logistics and health care.

Seasonality and inland areas

Seaside tourism (Riviera del Conero, Senigallia, Fano, San Benedetto del Tronto) generates seasonal contracts from May to September; agri-food (Verdicchio wine, olive oil, cured meats) and public employment (Region, health service, universities) complete the picture. The inland areas hit by the earthquakes have lost working-age population and offer mainly reconstruction and public-service jobs. SVIMEZ (a research association, not an official source) reports a negative migration balance of young graduates from the Marche towards the North and abroad, less marked than in the South.

Services and incentives

Job centres (Centri per l'impiego) are run directly by the Marche Region, one per provincial area with local branches, and publish vacancies, vocational training courses and self-employment schemes. Since 2025, with inclusion in the ZES unica, Marche businesses investing in capital goods can access the ZES tax credit and the digital one-stop shop for authorisations; rules and deadlines change with each budget law and should be checked on the mission structure's website.
