Structure

More than four in five workers in Lazio are employed in services. In Rome the main sectors are central and local public administration, professional and financial services, ICT and telecommunications, health care, tourism and catering, audiovisual and the international organisations, which hire on their own contracts and often in English. The regional employment rate is close to the national average but hides differences: the province of Rome is above average, while Frosinone and Latina have higher unemployment and an industrial economy in transition.

Provinces and seasonality

Outside Rome, skilled work concentrates in the chemical-pharmaceutical hub between Pomezia, Aprilia, Latina, Anagni, Ferentino and Frosinone (multinationals and contract manufacturers), in aerospace (Colleferro, Frascati) and in logistics along the A1. Agriculture in the Pontine plain (fruit and vegetables, nurseries) employs many foreign workers, often seasonal. Roman tourism generates demand all year with peaks in spring and autumn, while on the coast (Ostia, Circeo, Gaeta) and the lakes it is a summer business.

Services

Job centres are run by the Lazio Region and publish vacancies, internships and training paths through the regional employment portal; for public competitions, very numerous in Rome, national procedures apply. SVIMEZ (a research association) places Lazio among the regions attracting graduates from the South, but also reports flows of young Romans towards the North and abroad. Lazio is not part of the ZES unica.
