The upper town and the patron saint
The municipal portal presents Vibo Valentia as a hill city, among the most important of Magna Graecia. The Baroque Cathedral is dedicated to the patron saint San Leoluca; its bronze doors are by the artist Giuseppe Niglia. The Greek walls of Hipponion, of the 6th and 5th centuries BC, are among the ancient remains cited by the municipality.
Vibo Marina
Vibo Marina is the seaside district. It was originally called Porto Santa Venere and took its present name in 1928. The municipality recalls its port, specialised in the distribution of oil and cement, in the fish trade and in tourism, with frequent links to the Aeolian Islands, and one of the most significant industrial areas of the province.
Piscopio
Piscopio is a hill district that the portal places a few kilometres from the centre. It has nursery, primary and middle schools; its patron saint is San Michele Arcangelo. The municipality describes a territory with many water mills along the Varelli and Patamò streams and churches rebuilt several times after earthquakes.
