Climate and risks: historic earthquakes and the 2006 flood at Vibo Marina

The municipality's pages on its districts recall the earthquakes of 1783, 1905 and 1908, which destroyed the church of Piscopio several times, and the flood of 3 July 2006 at Vibo Marina. They are not risk maps: climate data are in the block below.

Earthquakes in local history

The municipality's page on Piscopio traces the history of the church of San Michele Arcangelo: the first church was destroyed by the 1783 earthquake, the next was damaged in 1905 and destroyed in 1908, and the present building was put up in the 1920s. It is a historical reference, not an official seismic classification of the municipality.

Flood at Vibo Marina

According to the municipality's page on Vibo Marina, on 3 July 2006 an exceptional storm caused a flood with heavy damage to industry, tourism and private owners, mostly in the Pennello neighbourhood; the overflow of the Sant'Anna stream and of streams formed on the hill buried the village and nearby localities in mud.
