Lake Baratz and Porto Ferro
Lake Baratz is Sardinia's only natural lake: about 45 hectares, 5 kilometres of shoreline, just over a kilometre from the sea. The Comune's CEAS Lago Baratz, at via dei Fenicotteri 25, looks after three trails in the regional Sardegna Sentieri network and runs guided walks, such as the roughly 7-kilometre loop around the lake. The Lago Baratz–Porto Ferro special conservation area covers about 10 kilometres of coastline, including the beach of Porto Ferro.
Pelagos Sanctuary
On 23 June 2016 Sassari signed the partnership charter of the Pelagos Sanctuary, the protected area for marine mammals in the Corsican-Ligurian-Provençal basin, and renewed its membership in 2018, 2020 and 2022. The Comune commits to limiting the impact of its policies on cetaceans, helping with strandings and promoting awareness activities, such as the 2025 «Impelaghiamoci» project with events and a photo exhibition.
