Climate and environment: air within limits, shelters from the heat
According to the 2024 regional air-quality report, all pollutants measured in Sassari's urban zone stayed within legal limits and the situation is stable. For heat waves the Comune is piloting a network of climate shelters: parks, gardens, libraries and public buildings open to everyone.

Air quality
For air-quality purposes Sassari is an «urban zone» of its own, excluding the Fiume Santo industrial area, monitored by two stations of the network run by ARPAS: one next to a busy road on via Budapest and a background station in a residential area on via De Carolis. In the regional report for 2024, PM10, PM2.5, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, benzene, carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide were all within legal limits; the situation is described as stable, with nitrogen dioxide at the traffic station falling over the last decade.
Heat waves
Under its local climate-adaptation plan the Comune is piloting a network of climate shelters: parks, gardens, libraries and public buildings open to residents seeking relief from the heat. An interactive map on the municipal website gives each shelter's services, equipment and opening hours.
