Getting around: electric ATAM buses, the Strait airport, ships to Messina

ATAM runs the city buses: 66 of its vehicles, about half the fleet, are electric. Lines 27 and 28 run from the Centrale station to "Tito Minniti" airport, about 8 km away, which also has a railway stop. Students and staff of the Mediterranea University ride free on some lines. Blu Jet fast ships go to Messina.

Buses

City transport is run by ATAM. With PNRR funds for fleet renewal the company bought 66 electric buses, about half its fleet, and installed 67 charging points and two 100 kW solar plants at its depot; at the end of 2025 Reggio was the first Italian city to complete this measure. Free buses for the university

Under an agreement with ATAM, students and staff of the Mediterranea University ride free on lines 27 and 28, which serve the south from the airport to the university sites, and from the 2025/26 academic year also on lines 12–14, 102 and 103 (north, on weekdays) and on line 118 (Armo, Gallina, Arangea, Ravagnese–centre).

Airport and the Strait

The "Tito Minniti" Strait airport is at Ravagnese, about 8 km from the centre. You get there by regional train to the Reggio di Calabria Aeroporto stop, or with Trenitalia's train + bus link: from the train at Reggio Calabria Centrale you continue on ATAM lines 27 and 28 from the station exit, with a ticket that can be bought together with the train ticket. There is also a direct bus from the port to the airport. Towards Messina there are Blu Jet fast passenger ships (FS group); ATM Messina's "Integrato dello Stretto" ticket includes a Liberty Lines Messina–Reggio crossing and 75 minutes on ATAM buses.
