Parks and gardens in town

The city's tourism portal lists the main green spaces besides the Botanical Garden and Prato della Valle.

  • Giardino dell'Arena: next to the Scrovegni Chapel, with remains from the Roman period.
  • Giardino Treves: a less formal layout in the Romantic style.
  • Giardino della Rotonda: backing onto the 16th-century walls, near the railway station.
  • Santa Giustina rose garden: near Prato della Valle, best seen in spring and summer when the roses bloom.
  • Parco Europa: a large park a short way outside the centre, good for picnics, with the Giardino di Cristallo, a modern greenhouse holding a large cactus collection.
  • Parco Iris: well-equipped play areas for small children.
  • Fenice Green Energy Park: presented as the first park in Italy devoted to green energy and environmental sustainability.

Euganean Hills

The Euganean Hills Regional Park, whose authority is based in Este, maintains walking and cycling trails, rest areas and the Le Fiorine adventure park; the Euganean Hills are recognised as a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve. The park's website posts the notices to check before heading out, such as temporary closures of the climbing routes on Rocca Pendice or forest-fire danger declarations.
