Tourism: via del Prione, the Morin promenade and the gateway to the Cinque Terre
Often used as a starting point for the Cinque Terre, Portovenere and Lerici, La Spezia has surprises of its own: via del Prione, the renovated piazza Verdi, the Morin promenade with views over the gulf and the Apuan Alps, the city museums and the memory of Byron and Shelley's Grand Tour. From the centre, buses and girobus to the riviera and the lift to the castle.

In the city
The national tourism portal acknowledges that La Spezia is often seen as a starting or transit point, but holds "pleasant surprises": via del Prione, the renovated piazza Giuseppe Verdi and the Costantino Morin promenade, opening onto the gulf and the Apuan Alps, as well as the city museums. In the 18th and 19th centuries the city was a Grand Tour stop and hosted the poets Byron and Shelley.
Towards the riviera
From the city, ATC Esercizio runs the connections to the Cinque Terre, Portovenere (with the Girobus) and Lerici, and also operates the lift to La Spezia's castle; the park-and-ride car parks with shuttles serve those arriving by car.
