Identity: statute, Liternum, Lake Patria and the Flight of the Angel
The municipal statute sets out the coat of arms (royal decree of 1876) and commits the Comune to protecting the Liternum archaeological area and Lake Patria. The feast of the Madonna della Pace, in the days after Pentecost, is known for the Flight of the Angel (Volo dell'Angelo), a century-old tradition debated in recent years.

Statute and symbols
The statute of the Comune di Giugliano in Campania states that the municipality has its own coat of arms, granted by royal decree of 26 July 1876, and a banner (gonfalone) governed by a presidential decree of 26 September 1954. The statute's aims include the protection, conservation and promotion of the Liternum archaeological area and the protection of Lake Patria and of the natural and coastal resources. The statute does not set up district councils: as bodies for participation it provides for sector advisory councils (consulte di settore).
The Madonna della Pace and the Flight of the Angel
During the celebrations for the Madonna della Pace, venerated in the Sanctuary of the Annunziata, the Flight of the Angel takes place: a girl, secured to a steel cable, is suspended across the main square invoking the Virgin's protection. The rite is held on the Monday after Pentecost Sunday and again seven days later; the press describes it as a century-old tradition, which in recent years has also drawn controversy on social media.
