Municipality and Municipi
The electronic identity card and registry services (residence, certificates) are booked online on the municipal portal and handled at the registry offices in the centre and in the nine Municipi; many certificates can be downloaded with SPID or CIE. The Municipi are also the first desk for reports, ZTL permits and neighbourhood social services; the municipal URP office and the Informagiovani at Palazzo Ducale guide newcomers.
Waste and water
AMIU Genova runs waste collection: in most districts through street bins for paper, plastic and metals, glass, organic and residual waste, in some areas door to door; in the old town and along tourist routes, Ecopunti replace the bins. Bulky items and appliances go to the collection centres (isole ecologiche), to the travelling Ecovan or can be collected at home by appointment. Tap water, supplied by Iren, is drinkable.
- Markets: Mercato Orientale (via XX Settembre) for food and delicatessen; covered district markets in Sampierdarena, Marassi, Sestri Ponente and Nervi; stalls in piazza Palermo and via Prè.
- Shopping: via XX Settembre and via Roma for chains and historic shops, via Luccoli and via San Luca in the caruggi for small shops; the Fiumara shopping centre in Sampierdarena.
- Libraries: the Berio library (central civic library, via del Seminario), the De Amicis children's library at the Porto Antico and a library in every Municipio; membership is free.
- Newcomers: Informagiovani at Palazzo Ducale for work, training and volunteering; for non-EU citizens the Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione at the Prefettura and the Questura; associations and patronati in the old town offer free guidance.
