Identity: the wedge-shaped plateau, 22 neighbourhoods and hamlets, the memory of Duccio Galimberti
The city takes its name from the wedge shape of the plateau between the Stura and the Gesso. Its 22 neighbourhood and hamlet committees are divided between Altipiano, Oltrestura and Oltregesso. Piazza Galimberti hosts the house-museum of partisan Duccio Galimberti; contrada Mondovì was the old Jewish ghetto.

The shape of the city
Cuneo's name comes from the shape of the plateau it stands on, wedged between the Stura river and the Gesso stream. The central square is named after Duccio Galimberti, a figure of the Resistance: on the square stands the Museo Casa Galimberti, the old residence where the partisan lived with his family. Contrada Mondovì, once the Jewish ghetto, preserves the Confraternity of San Sebastiano and the Diocesan Museum.
Neighbourhoods and hamlets
The municipal territory is organised in 22 neighbourhood and hamlet committees: 8 on the Altipiano (including Centro Storico, Cuneo Centro, Cuneo Nuova, San Paolo and San Rocco Castagnaretta), 8 in the Oltrestura (including Madonna dell'Olmo, Confreria and Cerialdo) and 6 in the Oltregesso (including Borgo San Giuseppe, Madonna delle Grazie and Spinetta).
A green, Alpine city
The image the city cultivates is that of a green, Alpine capital: among the top cities in the 2025 Ecosistema Urbano ranking, Alpine Town of the Year 2024, surrounded by the Gesso and Stura river park and the starting point of cycling climbs such as the Colle dell'Agnello and the Colle Fauniera.
