Buses and parking
AMTS (Azienda Metropolitana Trasporti e Sosta), created in 2011 from the old municipal company and merged with Sostare in 2021, runs the urban bus lines, car parks and paid street parking, permits for the ZTL and pedestrian areas, CTGO car and bike sharing and vehicle removal. Timetables, routes and tickets are in the AMT Catania app.
Metro and Circumetnea
The Ferrovia Circumetnea (FCE) runs the Catania metro, in service every day except 25 December and Easter Sunday, and the late-nineteenth-century railway that circles Etna through fourteen municipalities: from Catania and Misterbianco to Paternò, Adrano, Bronte and Randazzo, then Linguaglossa, Piedimonte Etneo, Fiumefreddo, Giarre and Riposto. The railway does not run on Sundays and holidays. The "MetroBus City" pass combines metro and AMTS buses.
Airport and trains
Vincenzo Bellini airport at Fontanarossa has the Trenitalia stop "Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa", linked to the terminal by an AMTS bus that can be bought together with the train ticket. On weekdays there are 50 connections a day from Catania Centrale to the airport; there are also trains to and from Messina, Siracusa, Taormina, Enna, Caltanissetta and Caltagirone. Alternatively there is the AMTS Alibus, with its own ticket. Closures due to Etna ash are described under Climate.
