Theatres and music
Teatro Massimo Bellini, opened in 1890 and named after the Catania-born composer, has an opera and ballet season, a concert season and recitals; the same body runs the Teatro Sangiorgi. At the Benedictine Monastery, Officine Culturali organises evening visits, theatre performances and concerts, with combined tickets that include the Botanical Garden and Villa Cerami.
- Villa Bellini: one of the oldest gardens and one of the four main parks of the city.
- Beaches: the Catania coast alternates sand and black lava-stone rocks.
- Etna: trails and guided excursions on foot or by 4x4 in the volcano's park.
- Circumetnea: the tour of Etna by train (weekdays).
At the table
Street food has its rules: arancino is masculine; pasta alla Norma comes with tomato, salted ricotta, basil and fried aubergine. Fish is bought at the Pescheria, the morning market.
