History
The university began in 1968 in Città Alta as the Libero istituto universitario di Lingue e letterature straniere, an autonomous body neither private nor state-run, in the Palazzo del Podestà on Piazza Vecchia. The faculty of Economics and Commerce followed and, in 1991, that of Engineering; on 1 November 1992 it became a state university under the name Università degli Studi di Bergamo.
Sites
Today the university is organised in three campuses: economics and law, at the via dei Caniana site; humanities; and engineering, in Dalmine. Sites opened between 1999 and 2015 include via Pignolo, via dei Caniana and Sant'Agostino. Its institutional seat is at via Salvecchio 19.
