Getting around: Conerobus, port, Falconara airport, trains
Conerobus runs urban and suburban buses, the Passetto lifts and the summer shuttle to Portonovo. The central station is on the Adriatic line; the Marche airport at Falconara is linked by the Aerobus. Ferries to Greece, Croatia and Albania leave from the port. The historic centre has a gated ZTL.

The network
Public transport is road-based: Conerobus runs the urban lines (the main ones link the station, the centre, the Passetto, the Torrette hospital and the Monte Dago university campus), the suburban lines of the province, the port service and, in summer, the shuttle to Portonovo. It also runs the Passetto lifts descending from the War Memorial to the beach. The centre is walkable; electric bikes help with the slopes.
Tickets
Urban tickets can be bought on board, at outlets, in the app and online; monthly and annual passes have reduced rates for students. Updated fares are on the Conerobus website and in the data below.
Trains, airport, port
Ancona Centrale is on the Bologna–Lecce Adriatic line: Frecce and Intercity to Bologna, Milan, Pescara and Bari, regional trains to Pesaro, Rimini, Civitanova and San Benedetto; the line to Rome via Falconara, Fabriano and Foligno has regional trains and a few direct connections. The station is in the Piano district, about twenty minutes' walk from the centre, with frequent bus links.
The Marche Airport "Raffaello Sanzio" is at Falconara Marittima, about 15 km from the centre: it has limited domestic and international flights; it is linked by the Castelferretti railway stop and by Conerobus's Aerobus Raffaello. From the port of Ancona ferries sail to Igoumenitsa and Patras (Greece), Split and Zadar (Croatia), Durrës (Albania), plus cruises; the terminal is a few minutes' walk from the centre.
ZTL and cars
The historic centre has a camera-gated ZTL active in certain hours and pedestrian areas (piazza del Papa, part of corso Mazzini); centre residents apply to the Comune for a permit. Parking is paid in the centre and along the viale, with park-and-ride car parks (Stadio, Archi, Umberto I). For daily life in the city a car is not essential; it is needed for the Conero and the inland.
