UNESCO sites

The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy (Turin, Venaria, Stupinigi, Racconigi and others, 1997), the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy (2003), the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato vineyard landscape (2014) and Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century (2018) are the UNESCO sites entirely or mainly in Piedmont; the pile-dwelling sites of Viverone and Azeglio belong to the transnational Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps (2011).

Nature and seasons

Gran Paradiso National Park, shared with the Aosta Valley, is Italy's oldest national park; Val Grande National Park (VCO) is one of the largest wilderness areas in the Alps. The Maritime Alps (Cuneo) and the Po Park complete the network. Skiing: Via Lattea (Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere), Bardonecchia, Monterosa Ski (Alagna), Limone Piemonte; summer on Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta and in the Langhe for wine and truffles (Alba fair in October–November).

Rules

The tourist tax is decided municipality by municipality (Turin and the main resorts apply it). There are no regional visitor caps; the only restrictions concern individual sites (booking for some Savoy residences, regulated access to some areas of Gran Paradiso).
