Rail

Bari Centrale is the hub: Frecciarossa and Intercity trains from Milan, Bologna and Rome (via Caserta–Foggia) continue to Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto; the new Naples–Bari high-speed line is under construction and will cut times to Naples and Rome. Trenitalia regional trains cover the Adriatic axis and the Bari–Taranto line. The other networks are separate: FS Sud Est (FS Group) serves the Salento (Lecce–Gallipoli, Otranto, Gagliano, Nardò) and the Bari–Martina Franca–Taranto line; Ferrotramviaria links Bari with Bitonto, Andria, Barletta and the airport; Ferrovie Appulo Lucane run to Matera, Gravina and Altamura; Ferrovie del Gargano link San Severo with Peschici and Foggia with Lucera. Timetables and tickets of the different operators are not always integrated.

Airports and ports

Aeroporti di Puglia manages Bari Karol Wojtyła (domestic and European flights, linked by train to Bari Centrale), Brindisi Salento (for Lecce and the Salento), Foggia Gino Lisa (scheduled flights resumed in 2022) and Grottaglie (cargo and testing). From the ports of Bari and Brindisi ferries leave for Igoumenitsa, Corfu and Patras (Greece), Durrës and Vlorë (Albania), Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Bar (Montenegro), with maximum frequencies in summer; the Tremiti islands are reached from Termoli all year and from Vieste and Peschici in summer.

Roads

The A14 reaches Taranto and the A16 links Bari with Naples; the Salento and the Gargano have no motorways and rely on state roads and expressways (SS16, SS613 Brindisi–Lecce, SS274 Lecce–Gallipoli, SS89 Garganica). The SS106 Jonica from Taranto towards Calabria and the SS16 in the Salento are very busy in summer. In inland villages public transport is limited to intercity buses (Cotrap and consortia) with few runs: anyone living outside the provincial capitals depends on a car. Bari has an urban bus network and a metropolitan rail service.
