Shopping and markets
The weekly street market of via San Marco runs on Monday and Thursday mornings (official list and hours in the Comune document cited). Supermarkets inside the quarter are small convenience formats at centre prices; for a big shop people head to corso Garibaldi, Moscova and Porta Nuova. There are many historic food shops, delicatessens and bakeries, but geared to passing trade.
Green space and libraries
The nearest public green is Parco Sempione, behind the Castle, with the Parco Sempione library (viale Cervantes) of the municipal library system. Inside the quarter is the Brera Botanical Garden, small and open to the public. The Montanelli gardens at Porta Venezia are a quarter of an hour's walk along via Manzoni. Playgrounds and dog areas are few and small.
Health, schools, services
Health: the quarter falls under ATS Città Metropolitana di Milano, which handles registration and the choice of a GP; the nearest hospital is the Fatebenefratelli on corso di Porta Nuova. Schools: there are state nursery and primary schools in and around the quarter (enrolment follows the Comune's catchment map) and the Liceo classico Parini on via Goito. Cheap everyday services (laundries, hardware, repairs) are often found just outside the quarter.
