In the city

Urban transport is run by Trentino Trasporti, a provincial company, with a bus network covering the districts, the hillside circoscrizioni and nearby municipalities; the lines to Povo and Mesiano serve the university sites with high frequencies on teaching days. Tickets are bought in the app, at machines and in shops, and urban passes are integrated with extra-urban services; the Province offers free or subsidised passes to students and other categories.

The Trento–Malé–Mezzana railway leaves from Trento station and, with urban stops at Gardolo and Lavis, climbs the Val di Non and Val di Sole: commuters and skiers use it. The Trento–Sardagna cable car rises from the centre (Ponte San Lorenzo) to the panoramic suburb in a few minutes. The station-based e.motion bike sharing and the cycle paths along the Adige and Fersina make the bicycle the fastest means in the centre, which is largely ZTL and pedestrian.

Train, car, airports

Trento station is on the Brenner line: regional and fast regional trains to Verona, Bolzano and the Brenner, and stops of some long-distance trains (Frecce, Italo, EuroCity to Munich and Vienna). The Valsugana line links Trento to Bassano del Grappa, Padua and Venice with regional trains. Verona Porta Nuova is about an hour away and gives access to the lines to Milan, Bologna and Rome.

The A22 Brenner motorway skirts the city with two exits (Trento Nord and Trento Sud). The historic centre is a camera-enforced ZTL; park in the park-and-walk car parks (Autosilo Buonconsiglio, Piazza Fiera, Zuffo with shuttle bus, ex Sit area) or in blue-line spaces. There is no commercial airport: the Caproni airfield at Mattarello is for general aviation. The reference airports are Verona Villafranca (about an hour and a half by train and shuttle), Venice Marco Polo, Bergamo Orio al Serio and Innsbruck, also reachable by direct coaches.
