A rebuilt city

The UNESCO entry describes the serial site as eight towns rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, bearing witness to late Baroque and to new approaches to town planning. At Ragusa, and at Palazzolo Acreide, new urban centres were created beside the ancient ones; the town of Ragusa Ibla is subject to landscape protection under the 1939 law and to a special regional law (L.R. 61/81) that promotes the restoration of public and private buildings.

Districts and localities

In its notices the municipality speaks of the "quartiere di Ragusa Ibla" (for example for new commercial signage for tourist purposes) and of branch offices and infopoints at Marina di Ragusa and at the Castello di Donnafugata. The municipal civil protection office has a post at Marina di Ragusa for the coast.
