Cost of living in Potenza

Among Italy's cheapest regional capitals for housing; eating out and groceries are cheap. Heating for six months a year and the car, needed to move outside the centre and around the region, weigh instead. Coworking and services are limited.

Housing

Potenza's OMI quotations are among the lowest of the regional capitals, even in central zones; a rented flat costs a fraction of what it would in Rome or Bologna, and the sales market offers low prices especially in the historic centre, where however many buildings need work. Student rooms in Macchia Romana are the most sought-after segment.

Heating, car, groceries

The climate affects the budget: heating (natural gas) runs from October to April and weighs on bills more than in any other southern capital. A car is almost compulsory for those living in the lower districts, in the hamlets or working around the region; parking in the centre is scarce. Restaurants, cafés and groceries are cheap; local produce (vegetables, cheeses, cured meats) is well priced at the markets. Paid services typical of big cities (coworking, premium gyms, deliveries) are few.
