Territory, seat and coat of arms
According to the statute the Comune is based at piazza Municipio 1 and its territory borders the municipalities of Savogna d'Isonzo, Farra d'Isonzo, Mossa and San Floriano del Collio and the Republic of Slovenia. The coat of arms is blue, with a silver wall girded by three towers with Ghibelline (swallowtail) battlements, the central one taller; the blue banner (gonfalone) carries the medals and the war cross awarded to the City of Gorizia.
European vocation and culture of peace
The article on the «European vocation» recalls the city's European historical and cultural tradition and the contribution of Gorizia's community and institutions to the founding of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community (Comunità di lavoro Alpe-Adria): the Comune commits to a united, free, democratic and federal Europe, with cooperation programmes, exchanges and twinnings with European local authorities. The following article commits it to promoting a culture of peace and solidarity among peoples.
The text consulted
The text is the one published in the Ministry of the Interior's archive of statutes, which refers to resolution no. 44 of 12 July 1996. The statute does not name a patron saint or list neighbourhoods or hamlets: for any later amendments and for how the territory is organised, the Comune's website is authoritative.
