Health: ASP Caltanissetta, S. Elia hospital, out-of-hours doctor and CUP booking

The city falls under the ASP of Caltanissetta. The hospital is the P.O. S. Elia (via Luigi Russo 6, emergency department open); the Health District is at via Luigi Monaco 109. GPs are chosen online with SPID or CIE, appointments are booked at the CUP.

Hospital and emergency department

The S. Elia Hospital is at via Luigi Russo 6 (switchboard 0934/559111, emergency department 0934/559265); the ASP's site has an emergency-department monitoring page. Urban lines no. 1 and no. 4 from piazza Roma, in front of the railway station, reach the hospital with a service every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the line. Other ASP hospitals are in Gela, San Cataldo, Niscemi, Mussomeli and Mazzarino; there is also a Community House in Caltanissetta.

Health district

The Caltanissetta District, at via Luigi Monaco 109 (phone 0934/506556), covers Caltanissetta, Riesi, Sommatino, Santa Caterina Villarmosa, Delia and Resuttano.

GP

The ASP explains that choosing or revoking a GP and a paediatrician is done online with CIE or SPID, within the territorial area of residence. If the doctor is outside the area, has reached the maximum number of patients or belongs to the same association, the district desk is needed. CAF offices can help with the paperwork, and a further change within 30 days is not possible.

Out-of-hours doctor

The out-of-hours doctor is active on weekdays from 20:00 to 8:00 and on holidays from 20:00 on Friday to 8:00 on Monday; it is free of charge and prescribes drugs only for urgent therapy, for a maximum of three days. In Caltanissetta there are two posts: the first at viale Regina Margherita 36 (0934 597332) and the second at corso Italia 32 / piazza delle Zolfare (0934 567153 or 0934 567264).

Booking (CUP)

The CUP call centre answers on 0934 506506 Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 13:15 and from 14:15 to 17:15 (Saturdays and holidays excluded). You can also book with the "ASP Caltanissetta" app (access with SPID, also on behalf of third parties), at pharmacies and at the CUP desk of the P.O. S. Elia, building C; the email address is cup@asp.cl.it.
