When and how
The centre is visited on foot in half a day; with the MAR, the Megalithic Area and Sant'Orso a full day is needed. The regional tourist office is on Piazza Porta Praetoria. The Abbonamento Musei Piemonte Valle d'Aosta includes the Valley's regional sites and castles and is the option for those who stay; regional combined tickets exist for several sites.
Seasons: winter for skiing (Pila, and the major resorts under an hour away), late January for Sant'Orso, summer for hiking and open Alpine passes (Great and Little St Bernard), autumn for the colours in the larch woods. Aosta is also a stage on the Via Francigena.
